Welcome to the first installment of my new art series, Creeping Progress! I’ve always had a fascination with wildlife, particularly the intricate beauty of creatures like spiders, scorpions, and snakes. As someone diagnosed with ADHD later in life, I’ve found art to be a way to channel my focus and creativity. It helps me process emotions, clear my mind, and immerse myself in something that keeps my hands busy and my thoughts grounded.
Over the past few days, I’ve been dedicating myself to drawing these fascinating creatures, starting with some basic sketches and slowly developing my technique. I plan to document my progress through this blog, showing you each step along the way.
First Attempts: Spider and Scorpion Sketches
Let me introduce my first two drawings—an initial attempt at sketching a tarantula and a scorpion. These creatures are such intricate subjects, and while my sketches are still rough, I’m proud of how they turned out. The tarantula’s segmented body and legs took some patience, while the scorpion’s tail and pincers presented their own unique challenge. It’s a bit nerve-wracking to put my first tries out into the world, but that’s the beauty of art—it’s all about growth.

More Sketches: Spider Variations and Beetle Inspirations
As I continued to practice, I tried my hand at another spider—this one with bold markings on its back. The angular legs and body felt more refined, and I’m starting to get a better feel for proportion and shading. I also created a simpler beetle-inspired sketch, focusing on clean lines and a little bit of personality in its markings.

Latest Additions: A Snake and a More Detailed Scorpion
In my most recent sketches, I’ve been focusing more on textures and shadows to bring the creatures to life. I started with a snake head, paying close attention to its curves, scales, and subtle details like the forked tongue and eye. I also returned to the scorpion, adding shadows to give it a more three-dimensional feel.

It’s amazing to see how far I’ve come in just a few drawings, and I’m excited to see how much more progress I can make with practice.
What’s Next?
This is just the beginning of my artistic journey. My goal is to continue sketching creatures from the wild—particularly those that creep and crawl—while improving my techniques. I plan to experiment with more detailed shading, texture, and maybe even move into color eventually. Each step of the way, I’ll be sharing my progress here, and I’d love for you to join me.
If you’ve enjoyed these first steps, feel free to follow along as I continue this journey. I’ll be posting updates regularly, showcasing my development as an artist and sharing the lessons I learn along the way.

Final Thoughts
I’m excited to see where this journey takes me, and I hope my sketches will inspire others, especially those who may also be navigating life with ADHD. I’ve found such peace and focus in art, and I believe there’s something powerful in sharing that with the world.
Thanks for joining me in this first step! Stay tuned for more sketches, more lessons, and more creatures from the wild.
