Teach Me Art: Level 1 – 30 Art Journey

Introduction to My Art Series

Welcome to the start of my “Level 1 to 30 Art Journey”! In this series, I’ll be documenting my progress as I work through 30 days (or more) of dedicated art practice, moving from the basics of sketching to more complex digital paintings. My goal is to improve my skills, find focus, and share how art helps me manage my ADHD, all while working towards creating detailed portraits and realistic pieces.

I’ll be updating this blog a few times each week with new posts, sharing my sketches, digital work, and reflections on how art has impacted my personal growth. The series will be broken into 30 levels, where each level represents a new skill or milestone on the road to reaching my ultimate goals.

This journey isn’t just about technical progress—it’s also about how art brings me relaxation and clarity. So, let’s dive in and see how far we can go together.

Level 1: Starting with Simple Sketches

For the first few levels, I’m going back to basics with simple sketches. Sketching provides a great foundation for more detailed work later on, and it allows me to relax while learning how to improve my technique.

What I’m Focusing On:

  • Learning basic shapes and lines: By sketching forms like hearts with wings and flowers, I’m developing a stronger grasp on structure and proportion.
  • Staying relaxed and focused: Sketching is also a way for me to quiet my mind and practice mindfulness. It helps me manage ADHD by channeling my energy into a single task.

Check out my current sketches:
This heart with wings sketch is my starting point, symbolizing love and freedom.
A simple flower design, reminding me of growth and patience as I learn.

Reflections:
By taking the time to draw these shapes, I can feel my mind becoming more centered and relaxed. It’s not about perfection at this stage—it’s about embracing the process and learning as I go.

Level 2: Building Confidence and Exploring New Subjects

In this level, I’ll be introducing more subjects into my sketching practice—like animals and skulls. These forms will challenge me to pay attention to details, such as textures and shapes, that I’ll need to master as I move towards digital painting.

Goal for Level 2:

  • Start sketching spiders, insects, and reptiles, which will help me develop a better understanding of anatomy and texture.

Reflections:
I’ll be sharing the results of these sketches in my next few posts, showing how I incorporate these new subjects into my practice and how they help me improve my overall art skills.

Level 3: Transitioning to Digital Art

After laying the groundwork with sketches, I’ll be leveling up by moving into digital art. At this point, I’ll take the sketches I’ve done and start adding color and details using digital tools. This step will allow me to see how my ideas evolve from paper to screen.

What to Expect:

  • You’ll see progress shots of my digital work as I explore different brushes, textures, and colors.
  • I’ll share tips on how I approach digital art as a beginner, and how I stay motivated during longer, more detailed projects.

Why This Series?

This series is all about growth. By setting up these levels, I’m creating a clear path to reach my ultimate goal: creating a detailed, realistic portrait of my girlfriend. Breaking this journey down into smaller levels allows me to focus on the individual skills I need to master along the way, while keeping me relaxed and grounded in the process.

Art as Mindfulness:
At every stage, I’ll reflect on how the act of creating art helps me manage stress and maintain focus. For me, art is not just about improving technically—it’s a way to process emotions and take a mental break from the chaos of everyday life with ADHD.

Follow Along with My Progress

I’ll be posting updates several times each week as I move through each level of this series. By following along, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at my creative process, from simple sketches to detailed digital paintings. I’ll also be sharing insights into how art helps me maintain balance and clarity in my life.

Next Level: Level 4

Stay tuned for the next post, where I’ll dive deeper into sketching more complex subjects like animals, insects, and skulls, and begin preparing my sketches for digital transformation. Let’s continue growing and learning together!
